Organized on October 12, 1936, the Charleston Music Club is a chapter of the National Federation of Music Clubs and the South Carolina Federation of Music Clubs.
Our purpose is to cultivate musical talent and promote the appreciation and understanding of music, to stimulate interest in music through the presentation of musical programs, and to aid young musicians through the award of scholarships.
Meetings are held monthly from September through May, on the fourth Monday of the month. Musical programs are a part of every meeting.
The Charleston Music Club awards scholarships to deserving music students for summer music study and private lessons. Auditions for these awards are held every January. A recital given by the scholarship awards winners takes place at the April meeting.
Many of our scholarship award winners have established successful careers as performing artists and music teachers. Several have been awarded scholarships to leading conservatories and university music schools.
Funds to support the awards program are raised through donations and annual fund raising efforts. Many of the scholarships are named in the memory of donors and other outstanding musicians and teachers.
A program to enlist the support of business and commercial contributions is being initiated soon. All donations are tax deductible.
